Sonata para Guitarra: I. Allegro Moderato - Antonio José

The first movement of Antonio José's Sonata for Guitar, one of my favourite pieces for the instrument. Full of drama, excitement and lyricism, this movement seems to reflect the youthful confidence and passion of its composer, and of the artistic culture of early 20th-century Spain.

Homenaje: Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy - Manuel de Falla

My performance of Manuel de Falla's beautiful tribute to Claude Debussy, one of the most important short pieces for the classical guitar of the 20th Century. The piece is full of fascinating contrasts: evocative of Spain, but imitating a French impressionist composer; full of intense grief, but using the rhythm of a dance; passionate yet understated. Perhaps that's why Benjamin Britten said that this short piece had 20 minutes of music in it.
